Noise

Being troubled by noisy roadworks outside my house, plus ongoing noise from neighbours, I decided to depict the issue of noise. The image is divided into good and bad, internal and external.

Me: A Blob Of Negativity

My mood descended into a not good state. I felt like a blob of negativity so decided to depict it. I went with bright colours despite the low mood because they represent the energy in my feelings. Although obviously a negative image to create, creating it has been helpful because it has interrupted and slowed down the negative thoughts. Also, saying these things about myself so bluntly has triggered thoughts that some of the negative statements about myself are not entirely true, which is obviously a positive.

Camping With My Therapist

I have experienced transference feelings and fantasies towards the caring adults in my life (excluding family) for much of my life and my therapist has been an obvious target for this. Going camping with her represents spending time with her and finding out about her and what she is interested in. It’s something I didn’t get to do with my parents. I created this image to express and further explore the transferential thoughts and feelings.

My Truth Is Locked Away

Sometimes, the true me does not come out, both to other people and to myself. Some of it is anxiety, some of it is shame, and some of it is the mind’s self-protective mechanisms which block access. Things are locked away in my head.

I Want To Live

I have been feeling very low recently and the voice in my head has kept saying that I want my life to end. However I am aware that somewhere deep down there is a little part of me that does want to stick around. This image acknowledges the presence of the bit that wants to live. It also illustrates an experience of depression.

Cityscape Using One-Point Perspective

I came across a fascinating video which demonstrated how to draw a cityscape using one point perspective and decided to give it a go. Above is the second one I did. I’ve tried to make it look like a British street.  My first is below. I had a few learning experiences with the first so wanted to have another go at it 🙂  It’s actually quite easy to do and a good exercise for people wanting to learn basic skills in perspective.

Here is the video I followed. The author has lots of drawing videos on youtube which I think are quite good.

Hitting Myself With a Tray

When experiencing destructive thoughts and feelings towards myself, I had thoughts of whacking myself on my forehead with a tray. Rather than carry out the urge, I decided to try drawing it instead. This helped me to manage the urge.
