My local art gallery has invited artists of all abilities to submit work for an exhibition and I decided to enter. The brief was to create a piece of art using a 5 inch canvas. I wanted to create a piece incorporating a mental health theme. I’ve been listening to a lot of talks about mindfulness recently and they repeatedly talk about bringing oneself to the present moment. My therapist recently mentioned an anchor as a something to bring oneself to the present moment. And zentangle art is also used as something to focus on in the present moment. Hence, I decided to bring all three into the design. Inside the circle reflects the calmer state of the mind when anchored in the present. The circle is a rescue ring – indicating rescue from mental torment. And the zentangle patterns around the outside provide a reminder of what can be done to bring oneself to the present moment.
